If you have ever investigated having a body detox, you might know
that they don't run cheap. However, there may be a way that you can
have one for free or nearly so.
If you're planning on doing a detoxification, you should set aside
some time where were you are not going to have any stressful
physical, emotional or mental commitments. Use this time to relax
and take it easy, as your body is working on cleansing itself. If
possible, spend the bulk of your time alone or around as few people
as possible as well, since you may find that the detox actually
makes you more emotional or moody. During the detox, if you can, try
to focus on meditating and doing other calming things.
Many people choose to do a three-day detox to start. It limits your
time commitment needed and it will give you the bulk of the weekend
to focus on the detox itself. On that Friday, eat lightly and focus
on drinking diluted fruit juices, herbal teas and distilled water.
Begin to cut down on your use of caffeine. If possible, the water
you drink should be lukewarm to cool but not cold. Over the weekend,
drink diluted fruit juices, herbal tea and water, preferably
distilled. Avoid eating food in order to give your body the best
possible chance to cleanse itself, since it won't have to work on
digestion. If you must have food, focus on fruit, since this is most
easily digested food. However, eat sparingly and as little as
possible.
Skin Brushing
You can try skin brushing at home as a means to cleanse your skin
and mimic what you might receive in a spa. Perhaps the best time to
do this is just before a bath. Brushing your skin can help stimulate
your limbic system and encourage the release of toxins for removal
from the body.
Try the following pattern to make rushing as easy as possible:
· First, brush your feet and toes, soles of your feet, and then the
fronts and backs of your legs. When you do this, brush upwards,
toward your groin.
· Next, brush your buttocks and lower back with upward strokes. Use
a long handled soft brush for the best reach, or have someone help
you do it.
· Then, brush your hands and arms, going towards your armpits.
· Next, brush your shoulders and arms and down your chest, towards
your heart. For women, it may be helpful if you lie down when you do
this so that your breasts are as flat as possible and both men and
women should avoid their nipples when they do this.
· Finally, brush your abdomen and stomach area, using a clockwise
motion.
In addition to fasting or eating lightly (and only fruit if that),
as well as drinking diluted juices, herb tea and water, you can also
detox by performing breathing exercises, meditating or doing light
stretching. All of these things will help you detox.
