Jane and Anne were identical twins. At least, they were identical
until they were in their middle years. Then, at their 40th birthday
party, people started to notice that Anne looked much younger than
Jane did. They had the same parents, lived in the same home growing
up and usually even did things together. As adults, they both had
similar jobs, similar family sizes, and similar stressful lives, so
what could be the cause of all Jane’s extra wrinkles?
The twins were even using the same skin cream, but getting very
different results. Maybe if they both kept a daily journal, it would
provide the answers. Then Jane could do whatever she needed to get
her skin looking like her sister’s again. After a weeks time, the
women would get together and compare notes on everything from eating
to sleeping to exercise.
During the week, the sisters diligently wrote in their journals. Ann
tried to squeeze her writing in between going to the gym and the
vegetarian restaurant during her lunch breaks. Jane preferred a more
leisurely time, usually either at the tanning salon or the hamburger
place near her house. Since she was watching her weight, especially
after seeing how slim Anne was, she ordered diet soda and did
without the gravy that usually accompanied her fries. And she was
definitely going to bed by midnight this week.
One week later, the twins met to discuss their journals. Jane was a
bit early, so she looked over her notes while she had a few last
puffs on her cigarette. She really could not see anything she had
written that might indicate why she had problem skin. In fact, this
past week, she had even washed her makeup off before bed and used
her skin cream again.
When Anne arrived, Jane noticed with envy how glowing her complexion
was. It just wasn’t fair - why didn’t she have wrinkles and rough
skin? At least Jane had a great tan, even if it did emphasize the
lines in her forehead from squinting at the sun.
Jane ordered a rum and coke and smiled as her sister chose water.
When Anne ordered a salad to start her meal, Jane wanted to
encourage her to try the deep fried onion rings. After all, onions
were good for you, didn’t her sister know that? During a very nice
meal, the women chatted about their busy week and their families.
Finally, over dessert – double chocolate cake and ice cream for Jane
and a fruit platter for Anne – the journals were opened and the keys
to Jane’s problem skin were discovered.
Like Jane, you may not realize that poor diet, lack of exercise,
smoking, and too much sun can cause havoc with your skin. Along with
aging itself, these factors are what cause wrinkles. Fortunately,
they are also under your power to change. You may be getting older,
but you don’t have to look it.
