If you are interested in having injections done to eliminate
wrinkles and age lines, there are a variety of these procedures to
choose from.
Collagen injections are the best known ones, but since the
substances used in this treatment are derived from animals, some
pretreatment testing is necessary. Allergic reactions are also a
possibility with this type of injection. For a natural alternative,
you may want to look into Perlane, a dermal filler that comes from
non animal sources and eliminates the need for the screening
process.
What Is Perlane?
Perlane is the brand name of a dermal filler that is manufactured
by the makers of Restylane, another all-natural injection. These
injections both consist of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is
produced naturally in the human body. This acid serves as a binding
and lubricating agent in the skin tissue, helping the skin to
maintain its resilience and elasticity.
How Does It Work?
While Perlane contains hyaluronic acid, the acid that is injected
into your tissue has been enhanced in a lab to make it last longer
than its natural counterpart. This enhanced element is injected into
the tissue that is lying underneath the wrinkled area. This
injection will cause the skin tissue to “plump up” and cause the
skin to appear fuller and smoother. The Perlane substance also
causes water to bind to it, ensuring that the skin maintains this
plumpness for approximately six months following the procedure.
Precautions
There are certain precautions that you may need to take before
undergoing a Perlane or Restylane procedure. Certain medications can
increase the risk of bleeding and bruising during the procedure. If
you are regularly taking vitamin E, anti-inflammatory drugs (such as
Aleve), and St. John’s Wort, you should abstain for at least one
week prior to your scheduled injections. If you have taken any blood
medication on a short-term basis, you should wait at least six
months from the time you take your last dose before undergoing the
Perlane injections.
Side Effects
There a variety of side effects that have been reported by
patients that have had Perlane and Restylane injections. Redness,
itchiness, and pain have been reported in the treated area. There
has also been some bruising and swelling. More serious complications
have included acne, allergic reactions, infection, and in very rare
cases, necrosis (death of the skin tissue).
Perlane is an effective injection treatment to diminish facial
lines and wrinkles. If you are interested in further information,
you can contact your doctor or other health professional.
