As we grow older, our body begins to show the visible signs of
aging. Foremost among these are wrinkles. While some people prefer
to wear their wrinkles proudly, others refuse to age gracefully. For
these individuals, there are
effective medical procedures that can reduce wrinkles and leave you
with younger looking skin.
You may decide to undergo cosmetic surgery to reduce wrinkles.
The most common of these procedures is the face lift. This involves
the doctor cutting and pulling your skin away from your face so that
he can rebuild the underlying
tissue. He then pulls the skin tightly, trims off any excess, and
attaches the skin back into place. While this is the most effective
method to reduce wrinkles, it is also one of the most expensive.
There are also non surgical cosmetic procedures that can reduce
wrinkles. These include a laser face lift, a thermage treatment, and
a microcurrent treatment. The laser procedure uses the laser beam to
resurface the outer layer of
the skin and can strengthen the collagen matrixes (groups) that are
found there.
The thermage procedure uses radio frequencies (extreme heat) to
cause the matrixes to reorganize and become stronger and more firm.
The microcurrent method uses small electrical current to stimulate
the production of collagen and elastin. All of these procedures can
reduce
wrinkles and leave you looking younger.
There are also a variety of injections that you can have
administered that will reduce wrinkles.
The three most common substances are Botox, collagen, and
Restylane. When injected into the tissue that lies underneath the
wrinkle,
collagen and Restylane both cause the skin to “plump up” and appear
younger, while Botox acts as a blocker, preventing muscle
contractions in the affected area. This relaxation of the area can
also allow the skin to appear smoother.
You may also want to try a chemical peel to reduce wrinkles. This
procedure involves a substance being applied to the skin and being
left there to dry. Once the peel has set, it is removed along with
old dead skin cells that are
attached to it. The newer, younger looking skin that was lying
underneath is now revealed.
There are also a number of over-the-counter treatments that claim
to reduce wrinkles. While some of these may be effective, most are
not. So you may need to try several different brands to find one
that works for you.
These are just a few of the many ways that you can reduce
wrinkles. You can discuss these with your doctor to decide which
treatment plan is best for you.
