The first sign of aging that most people notice are eye wrinkles.
These wrinkles as well as the dark circles and bags that accompany
them may begin to appear when a person is still in their twenties
and can become more noticeable with the passage of time.
The Skin Around the Eyes
One of the main reasons that eye wrinkles are the most common is
due to the fact that the skin that surrounds the eyes is the
thinnest to be found on the entire human body. This factor combined
with a lack of oil ducts in this area makes this layer of skin more
vulnerable to the damage that leads to the formation of wrinkles.
This damage can lead to a loss of elasticity and firmness, leading
to the formation of lines, bags, and dark circles.
Crow’s Feet
“Crow’s feet” is a generic name for the group of wrinkles that
form at the corners of the eyes and radiate out to the temple area.
Caused by repetitive facial movements such as laughing or squinting,
these lines can develop into deep creases over time, making them
very difficult to remove.
Causes of Eye Wrinkles
There are several factors that can lead to the formation of eye
wrinkles. As mentioned in relation to crow’s feet, repetitive facial
movements (particularly squinting) can cause eye wrinkles. People
who spend extended periods of time in the sun exhibit these lines
due to the fact that these individuals squint often to protect their
eyes from the bright light. Smokers also tend to squint more due to
the amount of smoke that is a constant factor in the air around
them.
Outside enthusiasts and smokers also display more lines and
wrinkles due to the damage that is inflicted on their skin cells by
ultraviolet rays and nicotine. These two elements can rob the skin
of important nutrients and moisture, leading to the formation of eye
wrinkles.
By avoiding overexposure to the sun and eliminating cigarettes, you
can prevent undue damage to your skin to ensure that your eyes can
remain as wrinkle-free as possible.
