One of the first parts of the body that exhibits the visible
signs of wrinkles is the face. Each of these face wrinkles has
earned its own name and is caused by a variety of factors.
Eye Wrinkles and “Crow’s Feet”
The face wrinkles that usually appear first are eye wrinkles and
“crow’s feet”, those lines that run from the corners of the eyes to
the temples. The reason that the eyes tend to wrinkle first is due
to the fact that the skin in this area is thinner than it is
anywhere else on the body and there is a lack of oil ducts there.
This factor causes the skin around the eye to be more vulnerable to
damage from the sun and other wrinkle causing elements.
“Crow’s feet” are caused by repetitive facial contractions as
well as squinting. People who spend time in the sun squint in the
bright sunshine, while smokers tend to squint due to the smoke in
the air that surrounds them. Smiling can also cause this area to
“wrinkle up” which can lead to the formation of permanent lines and
creases.
Nasolabial Wrinkles
Another type of face wrinkles that form as we begin to age are
nasolabial wrinkles, the creases that run from the folds of the nose
down past the corner of the mouth. Again, these creases can be
result of overexposure to ultraviolet rays and repetitive facial
movements. These lines are especially noticeable on smokers, who are
“puckering up” to smoke a cigarette several hundred times a day.
Marionette Lines
“Marionette lines” is a generic term for all the lines on your
face that are positioned in the same locations as the cracks on the
face of a marionette. This description, while including crow’s feet
and nasolabial wrinkles, is mainly used to describe the lines that
run from the corners of the mouth down to the bottom of the chin.
These creases are also called by repetitive facial movements such as
smiling and frowning. Smokers also have a tendency to develop these
lines earlier when compared with non smokers, again due to the
facial contractions needed to smoke a cigarette.
Prevention
To prevent these types of face wrinkles from developing, you
should avoid getting too much sun. If you are a smoker, you should
quit immediately. Healthy skin is also younger looking skin.
