Wrinkles can be found on every part of the human face, although
the earliest of these to detect may be the eye wrinkle. It may start
as one small line or crease and then slowly develop into a series of
wrinkles that extend from the eyes outward toward the hairline in
the shape of a fan. These are better known as crow’s feet.
An eye wrinkle can also be found above and underneath the eyes.
As you grow older, you may also notice that the areas under your
eyes seem to be less toned and you may appear to have dark circles
and bags here.
The reasons that wrinkles appear around your eyes earlier than
they do on other parts of your face is due to the fact that this
area of your skin does not have oil glands. It also is the thinnest
area of skin on your entire body. These factors lead to the skin
around your eyes being the most vulnerable and in turn being the
most easily damaged, which can lead to the breakdown of the skin
cells.
The area can become dry and the skin’s production of elastin and
collagen can decrease. As these two substances are essential to keep
skin firm and young-looking, a lack of them will lead to the skin
beginning to sag and lines to form. The dark circles and the bags
are the physical signs of sagging skin under the eyes.
An eye wrinkle can be caused by a number of things. Overexposure
to ultraviolet rays either from the sun or a tanning bed can cause a
wrinkle as well as crow’s feet. Smiling and squinting can also cause
these lines to appear. Cigarette smoking is also associated to
wrinkles. With most wrinkles, this is due to the fact the smoker has
lower oxygen levels in her bloodstream, causing poor circulatory
flow to the skin cells. In the case of eye wrinkles, smokers also
tend to squint more, leading to wrinkles forming around the eyes in
greater numbers than in the case of nonsmokers.
There are a variety of treatments and creams available for the
treatment of an eye wrinkle. Most of these products include
antioxidants and other ingredients that can prevent the breakdown of
skin as well as other elements that can stimulate the skin to
produce collagen and estrogen. Cosmetic surgery and different types
of injections can also help to diminish the effects of eye wrinkles.
You can discuss the possibilities with your doctor to find the
treatment program that is right for you.
