If you are considering having a cosmetic procedure done but are
not thrilled about the aspects of incisions and blood, you are in
luck. Thanks to advances in modern medicine, cosmetic laser surgery
is becoming commonplace in the
medical world.
Since being invented in the late 1950s, lasers have been useful
in many different surgical procedures. As for their use in cosmetic
surgery, doctors began to use lasers to treat acne scars and other
blemishes. During these procedures, the wrinkles around the affected
area were also diminished.
Today, doctors use cosmetic laser surgery in a variety of
procedures. One such procedure is a non surgical face lift. In this
type of cosmetic surgery, the doctor uses the laser to burn away the
outer layer of skin, exposing the newer skin
cells that lie underneath. The use of a laser gives the doctor
several advantages that he does not have in regular surgery. He has
more accurate control of the depth in which he is treating the skin.
He can also pinpoint collagen
matrixes (groups) and use the laser to strengthen and make them
firmer.
Another type of cosmetic laser surgery is the removal of
unsightly body hair. The doctor will either apply a cold gel to the
problem area or use a laser device that has a built-in cold
applicator. He then uses the beam to target the melanin that is in
the hair. The intense heat that is emitted from the laser will
destroy the hair follicle. Since hair may continue to grow in the
ruined follicle, several treatments may be necessary to eliminate
this growth altogether.
These are only two of the many different types of cosmetic laser
surgeries that are available. Both of these procedures are more
successful when used on people who have fairer, lighter complexions.
If you have a darker complexion, these procedures may not be right
for you.
