If you are interested in diminishing your wrinkles and want
younger looking skin, chemical peels may be just what
you are looking for. These procedures are an inexpensive alternative
to cosmetic surgery and may give you many of the same
results.
Chemical peels consist of the use of one of three different
chemicals-phenols, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and
alphahydroxy acids (AHAs). The type of chemical that is used in a
particular peel depends upon how deeply you wish the peel to
penetrate the skin layer.
The phenol chemical peels provide the deepest penetration of the
skin layer. It can be used to help remove blemishes and precancerous
growths as well as diminishing deep wrinkles. It is also an
effective treatment for skin that
has sustained sun damage. This type of peeling should only be used
on the facial area as using it on other areas of your body can lead
to permanent scarring. Individuals that have had this treatment must
avoid exposure to the sun indefinitely.
The TCA type of chemical peels is used when only medium-depth
penetration is desired. This type of peel is effective in treating
surface blemishes, fine wrinkles, and pigmentation problems. A side
effect of this procedure
includes a discoloration of the treated area, although this
condition is usually temporary.
People who have had this type of peel done need to avoid the sun
for several weeks after the procedure.
The mildest form of these chemical peels is the AHAs peel. These
acids are the same ones that are found in the peel kits that are
geared towards use at home. This type of chemical peel works at the
very outermost level of the skin
layer. The only side effects of this type of peel are irritation,
burning, and pain in the treated area that should pass as the skin
heals.
These chemical peels can allow you to have smoother and younger
looking skin without the expense and added risks
that are associated with cosmetic surgical procedures.
