Wrinkles are a natural sign of aging. In some cultures, older
people are revered and wrinkles serve as a badge of honor. In
western cultures, however, wrinkles are more of a curse that we want
to remove. Thanks to the marvels of modern medicine, wrinkle removal
is possible. The following is a list of wrinkle injections that you
may choose as a wrinkle removal option.
The Botox Injection
One type of these wrinkle injections is Botox, which is a
purified form of the botulium toxin. When injected into the skin
tissue, this substance serves to block the neural impulses that
cause facial muscle contractions. These contractions can cause lines
and wrinkles to form. By relaxing the problem area, Botox allows the
skin to naturally heal itself by stimulating the production of
elastin and collagen.
The Collagen Injections
Wrinkle injections can also consist of collagen, although the
form that is used to treat wrinkles is extracted from cows and pigs
rather than human sources. You will need to undergo an allergy
screen before using these types of wrinkle injections.
This animal collagen works in much the same way that your natural
collagen does. The injection is administered into the tissue that is
lying under the wrinkled area. The skin will appear to “plump,”
causing it to become firmer and smoother which in turn will diminish
or totally eliminate lines and creases.
Restylane and Juvederm Injections
Restylane and Juvederm are two brand names for wrinkle injections
that are manufactured by the same company. Both of these consist of
a gel that contains hyaluronic acid, a substance that is found
naturally in the body. This acid is extracted from non animal
sources so an allergy screen is not necessary with these types of
wrinkle injections.
These injections work in two ways to diminish lines and creases.
First, the gel substance causes the skin to “plump” in much the same
way that the collagen injections do. This process gives the skin a
smoother appearance. The acid also causes water to bind to it,
ensuring that this smooth appearance lasts for a longer period of
time.
Consult Your Doctor
As with any cosmetic procedures, there are some possible risks
and side effects associated with wrinkle injections. You can speak
to your doctor to decide which types of wrinkle injections are best
for you.
