While aging is a natural process in everyone’s lives, the visible
signs of it can be avoided for as long as possible if people take
steps to take care of their skin before the signs appear. Anti aging
skin care should be a part of your daily routine. Having healthy
skin can help to ensure that you have better health overall.
Anti aging skin care can begin when you learn the types of aging
and how they affect you as well as your skin. There is intrinsic
(internal) aging that begins in your mid twenties. This type of
aging is the natural “slowing down” of your bodily functions. The
extent of this process and the age at which the signs of aging begin
to appear is oftentimes based in genetics. There is not much that
you can do about this type of aging.
The other type of aging is the extrinsic (external) kind, which
is the aging that we experience as a result of external factors,
many of which we can eliminate. Excessive exposure to ultraviolet
rays from the sun (or a tanning bed) is the most skin damaging
external factor that we face. By limiting the amount of time that
you spend in the sun and ensuring that you always wear sun block or
other protective products can keep the amount of this damage to a
minimum.
Diet and good nutrition are another way that you can provide your
skin with anti aging skin care. Certain foods contain the nutrients
that are essential for healthy skin. Tomatoes have lycopene in them
that can help to prevent wrinkles and is also beneficial in the
prevention of some forms of cancer.
Natural antioxidants and vitamins are found in many of the red
and dark orange vegetables, such as beets and carrots. Red peppers
are especially healthy, as they contain vitamin A, vitamin E, and
bioflavonoids which all aid in the healing and natural moisturizing
of the skin. There are many other foods that can also aid with anti
aging skin care.
Water is also essential to maintaining healthy and
youthful-looking skin. Most doctors agree that you should drink at
least eight glasses of water a day to help keep your skin moist.
If you smoke cigarettes, you should stop immediately. Tests have
proven that a woman who smokes in her twenties is already showing
signs of premature aging. The nicotine in your blood stream prevents
an adequate amount of oxygen from reaching your skin cells. Within
ten minutes of quitting smoking, the levels of oxygen in the blood
stream can return to almost normal levels. So it is never too late
to throw that pack away.
These are just a few of the steps that you can take to improve
the quality of your anti aging skin care. As the saying goes,
prevention is the best medicine.
