As we grow older, most of us notice the changes in our skin
before anything else. It becomes drier and begins to sag and
wrinkle, leading to the formation of age lines and wrinkles. By
performing an anti aging skin care program, you can help to diminish
the visible signs of aging and protect your skin from further
damage.
Skin Enemy No.1-Ultraviolet Rays
Ultraviolet rays are the number one cause of damage to skin
cells. These rays are found in sunlight as well as in tanning beds,
although to lesser degree. Overexposure to ultraviolet rays
stimulates your skin to produce melanin as a protective barrier from
the rays. This melanin causes the skin to become a darker color
(what we call tanning). This production can also cause the skin to
lose elasticity as well as its natural moisturizers. This in turn
leads the skin to sag and can cause wrinkles to form.
To prevent this type of skin damage from occurring, you should
try to avoid the sun as much as possible. You should eliminate any
tanning activities as well, even if you are using a tanning bed. If
you do need to be outside for an extended period of time, you should
apply ample amounts of sun block to protect your skin cells from
ultraviolet rays.
Cleanliness is Next to Godliness
Another way in which you can ensure good anti aging skin care is
by practicing good hygiene. Dirt and pollutants can also be a source
of skin damage as the skin becomes vulnerable to break down and
infection if proper cleansing is not performed.
You should wash your face daily to stimulate the circulation to
your skin and to ensure that your pores are clear. The use of an
exfoliating agent can remove any dead skin cells that remain after
normal cleaning, which will stimulate the growth of new cells. You
should also use a moisturizer to prevent the skin from losing vital
fluids.
Taking Care of Yourself
While proper hygiene and avoidance of the sun are two ways in
which you can perform anti aging skin care, you can also adapt a
healthier lifestyle. Eating foods that are high in antioxidants and
vitamins can help to improve your skin’s health.
You should also make sure that you are drinking enough water to
help your skin maintain a healthy fluid level. Alcohol and smoking
should be avoided as these substances can also lead to premature
skin aging.
By taking steps to improve your overall health, you can improve
the health of your skin as well.
