Discover Healthy Ageing For Seniors |

|
If the aim of life is to be healthy, wealthy and wise, the western world’s senior healthy aging population is well on the way to achieving its goal! Unlike previous generations, today’s healthy seniors are no longer content to stay at home, putter in the garden, fuss about their health, and dote on the grandkids! No siree! They want to be fitter, healthier, maintain a positive outlook on life and keep up the social activities – often, the more physically and mentally challenging the better! In order to maintain this fitness for life regimen, healthy seniors are increasingly managing their own health and aging process while being aware of the risks to good health, including smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and sedentary lives. The key to becoming a healthy senior is a good balanced diet and regular exercise. A good balanced diet provides the proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, trace elements and water to keep our bodies working correctly. Exercise makes the heart stronger, boosting energy levels, muscle
strength and bone density. It also reduces the risk of falls and can
even reduce stress. And if those aren’t powerful enough reasons to take up exercise, there are also many social benefits, such as making new friends and having fun, which all helps to improve your well being. The health of your cardiovascular system and bones depends on a good balanced diet. Diet has also been linked to cataracts and aged related macular degeneration, which are the biggest causes of untreatable blindness among older people. A good diet includes fruit and vegetables, whole wheat bread and
other cereals, fish and meat (or vegetarian alternatives such as
lentils), milk and dairy food. If you know what day of the week it is from what's on the menu,
it’s time to get a life! Join a cooking class or buy some foreign
cookbooks and start practicing! And remember, keep that weight under control! It’s not the
easiest rule to follow, especially if you often meet friends for
coffee, or generally socialize, but it is vital for good long-term
healthy living. Keep away from refined sugar products and highly
processed food. Instead, munch on your greens, stir fry a heap of vegetables, or
graze on a healthy salad – not only will it make you feel healthier,
you will be building up protection from within against the “nasties”
in your system. |
