Being in control is one way to make sure your diabetes doesn’t
get out of hand and the best way to stay in control of your blood
sugar is by eating right, exercising and checking your blood sugar
levels regularly. For a person with type 2 diabetes there is no
recommended number of times to check blood sugar levels, but some
health care professionals say it can help get you started on the
right path to check as often as a person who has type 1 diabetes. It
is important, too, to get accurate numbers and this is when shopping
for the right diabetic equipment comes into play.
If you are going to check your blood glucose levels at least 7
times a day, you are going to want to find the easiest, least
painful way to do it. There are many types of glucose meters
available and you’ll need to do your research to find the diabetic
equipment that works best for you. Although you may be tempted to go
out and buy the most expensive meter on the market because it claims
to be pain-free, be sure you know what you are buying.
Remember, too, that daily readings may be temporary for you. If
you are able to get your diabetes under control with diet and
exercise in a short time, you may start to rely on your doctor’s
hemoglobin A1c tests only. You don’t want to spend a lot of money on
diabetic equipment that you will want to replace sometime in the
future with a newer, better model.
No matter which type of meter you decide to buy, the most
important feature is you. If you don’t use it regularly to test your
blood sugar levels and act on what you find, then it doesn’t matter
what type of monitor you bought.
